FREQUIENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQs)

The following questions are those that are the most commonly asked of us. If you have a question that you need answered and cannot find it here. Please feel free to contact us by email or by phone. You can find that information HERE.

Are your classes taught in a traditional style

It depends on what you consider traditional. Though we expect everyone to follow basic rules of respect towards the school, instructors, students and themselves, classes are taught in a more relaxed format so that every student can learn easily.

Do you have parent/child classes?

At this time we specifically do not, however, if a parent and child wish to study together, the parent is more than welcome to join the class that best fits their child.

Why are you not associated with any major pressure point organization?

I was an affiliate school and associated with Dillman Karate International for 10 years. I chose to discontinue my association for financial and non-supportive reasons. I was also associated with Hogan Karate International for a couple of years, but then chose not to be associated with anyone. If and when I choose to be associated with a pressure point organization it will be due to their ability to successfully support their associates in a fair and complete manner.

Do you have a discount for family members of current members?

Yes. We extend discounted memberships to immediate family members only. This group includes; parents, siblings and grandparents or legal guardians.

Do you require contracts?

Yes and no. Depending on the comfort level of the student or whoever is paying the tuition, there are different options to choose from.

We have a Beginners Special which includes a uniform, registration fee and the first three months of tuition. This can stand alone and the student is no longer obligated for future payments. If a student wishes to continue training, the have the option of paying up to 6 months in advance or they can stick with our most common agreement of a Month-to-Month which only requires a 30 day cancelation notice.

Even though you don't teach a sport, can I still compete in martial arts competitions?

Of course. If a student wishes to compete then who are we or am I from stopping them. If a student wishes to pursue this avenue we will assist them along the way, however, if someone is looking for a sport then this art is probably not for them.

How long does it take, on average, to get a black belt in your style?

The martial arts is a lifelong study. That being said, if a student stays diligent and studies regularly, a black belt can be achieved in about 4.5 years.

There is a minimum time frame for each belt level a student must train for before they are able to promote. At that time it is up to the instructor to decide if that student is ready for promotion. At Handwerker Martial Arts we don't promote anyone just because they so up to class on a regular basis and can pay their dues. Students have to prove they can perform the required techniques have knowledge of the required principles and fundamental before they can test. So in some cases it is common for it to take longer.

How long is each session?

We don't really have sessions. All of our classes are based on a continued learning platform and continue until the student wishes to not continue training.

Do you take Credit Cards?

We take all forms of payment; VISA, MasterCard, Discover and American Express. We also take Cash, Checks and Silver.
